Most people know G-Shock as an affordable, nearly indestructible plastic watch. Fewer know that Casio also makes luxury G-Shocks: the MR-G line in titanium, with traditional Japanese finishing, can cost as much as a Swiss luxury watch. We have 52 in stock, from $265 to $14,080.

A short history

Casio introduced the first G-Shock, the DW-5000C, in 1983. Its engineer, Kikuo Ibe, set out to make a watch that would survive a 10-metre drop, resist water to 10 bar and run 10 years on its battery. The answer was a movement suspended inside a shock-absorbing case.

G-Shock grew from a tool watch into a cultural icon, and in the 1990s Casio began the MR-G line, a full-metal premium G-Shock. Today MR-G models use titanium alloys, sapphire crystals and hand finishing by Japanese craftsmen, while keeping the shock resistance, solar power and radio time synchronisation of the range.

The lines you will see

MR-G. The flagship: titanium and special alloys, hand-polished surfaces, often limited editions inspired by Japanese craft and armour. The most expensive G-Shocks.

MT-G. "Metal Twisted G": metal and resin combined, a step below MR-G in price.

Full-metal and resin G-Shocks. The classic square and round designs, including the octagonal GA-2100, from the most affordable price points.

Features most premium G-Shocks share

  • Tough Solar charging from light.
  • Radio-controlled time (Multi-Band 6) and often Bluetooth connection to a phone, so the time is always exact.
  • Shock resistance, water resistance to 200 m, and a sapphire crystal on premium models.

What G-Shock costs

Our G-Shocks run from $265 to $14,080, with a median of $1,275. New pieces start at $265 and pre-owned at $740. MR-G limited editions are at the top of the range.

What to check before you buy

  • The bracelet. Titanium bracelets are sized with links; ask how many spare links are included.
  • Coatings. Black DLC and other coatings on MR-G models resist scratches, but deep marks cannot be polished out.
  • Solar charge. A G-Shock left in the dark may need light to recharge; this is normal.
  • Limited editions. Check the numbering and the presentation box.
