Chopard is both a watchmaker and a jeweler, and its two best-known watches show both sides: the Happy Sport, with diamonds that move freely across the dial, and the Alpine Eagle, an integrated-bracelet sports watch. This comparison explains how they differ.
A family house
Chopard was founded in 1860 by Louis-Ulysse Chopard in Sonvilier, in the Swiss Jura. Since 1963 it has been owned by the Scheufele family, who built it into both a watchmaker and a jeweler.

The Happy Sport
The idea comes from Chopard's Happy Diamonds: diamonds that are not set but move freely between two sapphire crystals above the dial. On the Happy Sport they turn with every movement of the wrist. The number of moving diamonds, and whether the bezel is set, varies by reference and is part of the value; the listing describes the setting.
The Alpine Eagle
The Alpine Eagle is the watch for buyers who want a bracelet sports watch. It comes in several sizes, and in steel or gold. With 100 meters of water resistance on most versions, it is the more practical of the two for everyday wear.
Two other lines to know
- L.U.C: Chopard's haute horlogerie line, with in-house movements made in Fleurier. Check the caliber in the specifications.
- Mille Miglia: racing chronographs tied to the classic Italian road race.
Which one should you buy?
Choose the Happy Sport if you want the watch that is unmistakably Chopard and you like jewelry on the dial.
Choose the Alpine Eagle if you want a sports watch on a bracelet, more water resistance, or a larger case.
