Jacob & Co explained for buyers: the New York jeweller turned Geneva watchmaker, the Five Time Zone, Astronomia, Epic X and Opera, prices and what to check.

Jacob & Co Epic X Skeleton with white details

Jacob & Co makes some of the boldest watches in the world: rotating globes, floating tourbillons, skeleton cases and diamond-set pieces that are as much sculpture as timekeeping. We have 188 Jacob & Co watches in stock, from $1,760 to $440,000, with a median of $36,785.

A short history

Jacob Arabo founded Jacob & Co in New York in 1986 as a jeweller, and became known for jewellery worn by musicians, athletes and celebrities. The brand's first big watch success was the Five Time Zone in the early 2000s, with its colourful dials and several time zones at once.

Jacob & Co then moved into high watchmaking in Geneva, with complications designed for visual impact: the Astronomia, launched in 2014, whose movement rotates around the dial like a planetary system, became its signature piece.

The main lines

Epic X. Skeleton sports watches with exposed movements, sapphire or titanium cases and bold colours. One of the more accessible lines.

Astronomia. The flagship: a vertical movement with a gravitational triple-axis tourbillon, a rotating globe and a moon, all turning around the dial.

Five Time Zone and World Is Yours. Multi-time-zone watches with several sub-dials, the brand's original success.

Opera, Bugatti and Caviar. Musical, automotive and gem-set pieces, often in limited editions.

Brilliant and Palatial. Diamond-set and classical designs, including ladies' watches.

What Jacob & Co costs

What to check on a pre-owned Jacob & Co

  • Diamonds. Check that every stone is present and set tightly; ask whether any were replaced and by whom.
  • Complications. Astronomia and Opera movements are complex; ask for a video showing them running and for the service history.
  • Sapphire cases. They resist scratches but can chip at the edges if knocked.
  • Box and papers. For high-value pieces they matter a great deal; see why box and papers matter.
  • Authenticity. Statement watches are frequently copied. Every watch we sell is checked by our specialist before it ships; see how we inspect.
