Czapek Antarctique: A Buyer's Guide to the Independent Steel Sports Watch

Czapek explained: the watchmaker who partnered with Patek, the 2015 revival, the Antarctique steel sports watch and its dial series, and the Quai des Bergues.

Czapek is a revived independent brand, and the watch most buyers look for is the Antarctique, a steel sports watch on an integrated bracelet. This guide explains where the name comes from and what to check on a listing.

By the numbers: Switzerland exported CHF 25.9 billion of watches in 2024, 2.8% less than in 2023, in 15.3 million pieces (9.4% fewer), according to the Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry (swissinfo.ch, 30 January 2025).

The partner of Patek

François Czapek was a Polish-born watchmaker in Geneva and, from 1839 to 1845, the business partner of Antoine Norbert de Patek. He then ran his own house, which later disappeared.

The name was revived in 2015 as an independent brand, financed in part by watch enthusiasts. Czapek works with specialist movement makers and has its own calibers.

The Antarctique

Introduced in 2020, the Antarctique is a steel sports watch on an integrated bracelet with C-shaped links. Its micro-rotor movement is visible through the case back.

Two things matter when you compare listings:

  • The dial series. Antarctique dials are made in small series, each with its own name. The listing states the series, and it is the main difference between two watches that otherwise look alike.
  • Strap and bracelet. The Antarctique has a quick-change system and is often sold with a second strap. Check what is included.

The other lines

  • Quai des Bergues: the dress watch that relaunched the brand, with two subdials and a seven-day power reserve.
  • Faubourg de Cracovie: the chronograph line.

What to check on a listing

  • The dial series and whether it is a limited edition.
  • The case size and material.
  • What comes with the watch: bracelet, second strap, box and papers.

If you are unsure about size, read our guide to choosing your watch size.

Every watch we sell is checked by our specialist before it ships. We are an independent retailer, not an authorized dealer of the brand; the listing says what comes with each watch.
