About Rado

Rado began in 1917 in Lengnau, Switzerland, as the movement maker Schlup & Co., and started using the Rado name in the 1950s. The brand is part of the Swatch Group.

Rado is known for materials. The DiaStar of 1962 was sold as a scratch-resistant watch, and in 1986 the Integral made high-tech ceramic the brand's signature. Ceramic is light, warm to the touch and very hard to scratch, which is why so many Rado watches look new for years.

What to know before you buy

  • Ceramic resists scratches but can crack if dropped on a hard floor. Treat it like fine porcelain rather than steel.
