About Panerai

Panerai began in Florence in 1860 as a watch shop and workshop founded by Giovanni Panerai, and became a supplier of precision instruments to the Italian Navy. Its watches were made for navy divers: very large cases and luminous dials readable underwater.

Two cases define the brand. The Radiomir, with wire lugs and a cushion case, is named after the luminous radium-based paint Panerai used. The Luminor added the bridge that locks the crown, which became Panerai's signature.

What to know before you buy

  • Panerai models are known by their PAM number (for example PAM00111): it identifies the exact case, dial and movement.
  • Most Panerai watches are 42, 44 or 47 mm; check the case size and try the Real size button before buying.
